Hi! I’m Sarah!
A follower of Jesus, wife to the best man I know and mummy to two small, rambunctious boys. And I know it’s a cliche, but being a mother is the best and hardest thing I’ve ever done. These crazy, snotty and hilarious gifts demand almost all that I am and have (my sleep, my ice cream and sometimes even my sanity).
Aside from the regular ups and downs of having small kiddos, I’ve struggled with depression through pregnancy and during the first year of each boy’s life. Thankfully, it’s never lasted more than a few months at a time, but there have been some pretty dark days. I’ve relied on short, encouraging phrases to keep me just doing the next thing, and brief, desperate prayers asking for God’s strength to get through the next 5 minutes. And I know that I’m not alone in this. Whether it’s depression, or exhaustion or just plain old busyness, we all need constant reminders of the things that really matter, and a breath-by-breath reliance on God for the grace and strength to live right here, right now where He has placed us.
So, when I started to learn handlettering at the beginning of this year I was thrilled to find that the process of carefully drawing and arranging the words of Scripture or other encouraging phrases helped me to actually meditate on them! The words just kept buzzing around in my head, and I found myself genuinely encouraged. So I framed the art that I was creating and left it around the house as extra reminders of the things that really matter in life, and the eternal perspective that needs to be applied to each moment.
After a while, I figured that maybe these designs could be a blessing to more than just me. And so I’m in the process of making them available for anyone who just needs a Small Encouragement! You’ll find that many of the designs fit nicely into those mini frames you can buy at Micheal’s and Walmart, and they are small enough to perch by your kitchen sink or nightstand, or on your desk or mantelpiece without taking up too much room.
I’m always on the look out for perky and pithy phrases to work into new designs, so let me know if there’s a Scripture or quote that you’d like me to work on, and I’ll add it to my list! You can email me through my contact page, or just leave me a comment!
Finally, I do love to work on custom pieces – larger pieces of art and also logos. Let me know what I can help you with!
